A Peaceful Retreat to be MindFul

I love the mountains and getting away into nature from the many distractions and worries of the day-to-day life. Being in the mountains is literally a breath of fresh air; a retreat that refocuses me to the sounds, smells and beauty the world has to offer. It reminds me to take time to think and reassess; to re-evaluate and remember what is important; what I can do and what I cannot do. To me, nature is like a reset button.

Sometimes, though, it is not possible to hop into travel mode and walk out the door with a backpack to get to these beautiful and natural places…especially when I need them. That is what inspired me to paint Mindful, a compilation, oil on canvas, modern landscape of the many mountainous places I have been to. Mindful is a 48″ x 60″ inch oil painting that aims to be a retreat in the home or office. It is a large, multi-layered painting, with wrap around edges, and it changes in color depth (because of its many layers) as the light of the room, where it hangs, changes. If you have any questions regarding this painting, please reach out to me directly.

Tree Sanctuary

A giant in the forest full of color, light and sunshine has emerged onto my canvas – a Sanctuary Tree. This tree bloomed from my brushes like a sculpture reaching for the light… thirsty, strong and brave 🙂 . Of course this painting is about inspiring happiness and resilience, but it also has humor in it, as many of my paintings do. It is full of hidden images – what can you see?- and it hangs and drinks the light on Bainbridge Island, WA. It is an original Marianne Schovsbo painting, oil on canvas 48 x 60 inches with a 1.5 inch wrap around edge. Made with imagination and joy. If you are interested – please contact me.

Life is a river – don’t you just love it?

“River” 36 x 36 x 1.5 inch oil on gallery quality canvas – original oil by Marianne Schovsbo ($4500 USD)

Life is a river of moments – reflections, experiences, side currents, eddies and fast swirling water. As each of our rivers flow, there is always so much to see, hear and learn. Of course it’s treacherous at times… mellow during others – never boring. Don’t you just love it?!

Have an amazing day and enjoy the side currents along the way.

So … what’s it all about?

So what is life all about anyways?

To me life is all about creating and exploring, whether through my painting, in my job, via biking in amazing landscapes, hiking amongst trees, rambling along mountain trails, or simply breathing in the life around me.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Be kind, stay safe and remember your humanity.

Are you ready for the week-end journey?

It is close to the summer solstice; a time of celebration and light – at least if you are in the Northern Hemisphere of our planet Earth. Each day becomes longer and lighter, the birds are busy singing us awake. Yet we worry and… we worry. It has been a strange year; indeed it has.

So… let’s celebrate what we can; let’s celebrate our lives, our breathes, our strengths in imagination and creativity.

I present to you “Woman with a View” ... she is not a new painting, but one that continues to be important. She currently lives and breathes in San Francisco Bay Area in a private collection.

Let’s focus on our strengths and calm and introspection…and how we can make this a better world.
